The Project
The homeowners had lived with a cramped, poorly planned 1990s ensuite for over 15 years. The original layout featured a corner tub that was never used, dated beige tile that ran floor-to-ceiling, and a single vanity with inadequate lighting. The space measured 85 sq. ft. — more than enough to work with, but the layout was wasting every inch.
Our goal was to eliminate the tub entirely in favour of a large walk-in glass shower, install double vanities with solid surface countertops, and introduce heated porcelain tile floors — all without touching the plumbing stack location, which kept costs under control.
The Challenge
The existing plumbing rough-in was in poor condition — copper supply lines showed early signs of corrosion, and the drain assembly needed full replacement. This was discovered during demolition, as is common in homes of this age. We replaced all supply lines with PEX, upgraded the drain, and brought the electrical up to current Ontario code (GFCI on all bathroom circuits), all within the original project timeline.
The homeowners also requested in-floor heating — a detail that required careful sequencing: the heating mat had to be installed before the tile, and the thermostat rough-in had to be coordinated with the electrician on the same day as the tile setter. Logistics like this are where experienced project management earns its value.
